Climate Finance & Infrastructure Support

Independent technical evidence for investment decisions and renewable infrastructure: what the subsurface supports, and how sure that is.

01 / The problem

Capital for climate infrastructure is committed on technical claims that most investment teams cannot test themselves: that a formation will store what the model says, that a well will produce, that a monitoring plan will detect a problem. An independent view of those claims, with the uncertainty stated, is what turns a technical report into evidence a committee can rely on.

02 / Approach

How the work is done.

  1. Define the decision

The investment or lending decision, its deadline and the test it must meet are agreed first.
  2. Review the evidence

The sponsor's data, models and reports are checked for quality, completeness and unsupported assumptions.
  3. Test the claims

Key quantities are re-estimated independently where the data allows, and compared with the sponsor's case.
  4. State the risk

Findings are given as ranges with the main risks ranked, and the conditions or further work that would reduce them.

03 / Technical evidence for investment

Technical evidence for investment

Due diligence is written for two readers: the technical adviser who will check the method, and the committee that needs the conclusion.

  1. An independent review of subsurface data, models and capacity or resource claims.
  2. Red-flag reports for early-stage screening.
  3. Conditions precedent and monitoring covenants framed in technical terms.
  4. Support in discussions with lenders, verifiers and regulators.

04 / Renewable infrastructure

Renewable infrastructure

Subsurface input to renewable energy projects, including geothermal wells integrated with carbon management [VERIFY: scope of infrastructure work offered].

05 / Deliverables

What you receive.

Each engagement ends with documents and data that can be filed, checked and reused.

  • A due-diligence report with an executive summary for the investment committee
  • A ranked risk register with likelihood, consequence and mitigation
  • Independent estimates of key quantities as P90, P50 and P10 cases
  • A list of data gaps and the work needed to close them
  • A written scope, timeline and cost band before work starts [VERIFY: pricing approach]

06 / Tools and data

Tools, software and data used
Category What is used
Review Structured checklists for data quality, method and assumptions [VERIFY: internal procedure]
Independent analysis Log interpretation, capacity estimation and uncertainty analysis; see the other three services
Data The sponsor's data room: well data, models, technical reports and monitoring plans

07 / Sample figure

What the evidence looks like.

An illustrative figure built from synthetic data, to show the form of the output. It is not from a client project.
Fig. 1 Illustrative example. A quantity reported as three cases rather than one number; P90 is the low case and P10 the high case [VERIFY: convention]. Source: Illustrative values, not project data.
Table view of Fig. 1
Time P90, low (Mt CO2) P50, mid (Mt CO2) P10, high (Mt CO2)
Year 5 2.0 3.1 4.7
Year 10 3.9 5.9 8.9
Year 20 6.5 10.0 15.0
Year 30 6.5 10.0 15.0

08 / Related case study

In practice.

Case studies are published only with the client's agreement. Entries marked as placeholders show the structure, not a real project [VERIFY].

09 / Questions

Common questions.

Who do you act for?

For whoever commissions the review, with any other interest in the project declared before work starts [VERIFY: conflict-of-interest policy].

Can the report be shared with lenders?

Yes, on the reliance terms set out in the engagement letter [VERIFY: reliance and liability terms].

What if the data room is thin?

Then the report says so. A finding that the evidence does not yet support the claim is a legitimate and useful result.

10 / Other services

01

Borehole Logging & Interpretation

Wireline logging, petrophysics and core-log integration that turn a borehole into a calibrated record of the formations it crosses.

02

Carbon Storage & Climate

Screening, monitoring design and technical evaluation for CO2 storage, stated with the uncertainty a regulator or investor needs to see.

03

Subsurface Resources

Resource evaluation for groundwater, basalt and geothermal wells, built on logged and tested data rather than surface inference alone.

05

Training & Curriculum Development

Courses and curricula in borehole logging, interpretation and carbon storage, built so that agency, industry and university teams can do the work themselves.
